Mepham Celebrates Homecoming With School Spirit, Community and Athletic Tradition

Mepham High School celebrated its annual homecoming on Oct. 3 filled with school spirit, community connection, athletic pride and Pirate tradition.
Ahead of the homecoming football game, the school hosted its annual Pirate Fest, welcoming members of the community to campus to learn more about the school’s clubs and organizations. Students showcased their activities and interests while connecting with families, alumni and community members.
Homecoming festivities continued with the football game, where the Mepham Pirates defeated Valley Stream Central High School, 50-15. The game featured spirited performances throughout, including energetic halftime routines by the Kickline, led by Kerry Dennis, and the cheer squads, led by Ashley Yunker. The Mepham band, led by Anthony Brandofino, added to the excitement with peppy musical interludes throughout the game.
The Pirate community also celebrated the school’s Athletic Alumni Hall of Fame, organized by social studies teacher Stel Pefanis. This year’s inductees included runner Mark Belger, baseball player Robert Tritsch, coach Ken Hunte, basketball player Jennifer Geiger, and members of the 2021 and 2022 softball teams.
The evening’s Homecoming festivities culminated with the Homecoming dance, where Will Schaefer and Maddie Santos were crowned homecoming king and queen.
