Joell Bazan Named MAMS Science Bee Champion

Merrick Avenue Middle School held its first school-wide Science Bee on April 24, bringing together students in a spirited academic competition that celebrated scientific knowledge and inquiry. The event began with a qualifying science quiz, featuring questions across a wide range of scientific topics and theories. Based on their performance, 50 students advanced to compete in the live Science Bee.
During the competition, participants engaged in multiple rounds of questioning, including “this or that” challenges and open-ended responses designed to test both critical thinking and content knowledge. The event culminated in a final round in which the top three students demonstrated their skills through hands-on, lab-style activities to determine the overall winner.
The finalists were Jada Zaky, Adith Selvakumar, and Joell Bazan. Joell Bazan was named the Science Bee Champion following their performance in the final round.
“We hope to continue it each year and establish it as a lasting school tradition,” said Bryan Palermo, science chair.
