Two Bellmore-Merrick Wrestlers Capture Nassau County Titles

Two standout wrestlers from Bellmore-Merrick - one from Mepham High School and one from Kennedy High School - captured Nassau County Championships in their respective weight classes, earned Most Outstanding Wrestler honors, and qualified for the New York State Championships.
Mepham senior Jason Martin claimed the Nassau County Championship at 190 pounds, cementing his place in school history with a dominant performance throughout the tournament. A three-time All-County wrestler, Martin was also awarded the prestigious Most Outstanding Wrestler Award in recognition of his exceptional skill, leadership and performance on the mat.
Kennedy sophomore Peter Mikedis captured the Nassau County title at 165 pounds, sealing his championship victory with a pin in the finals. For his outstanding effort and tournament performance, Mikedis was named a Most Outstanding Wrestler Award recipient. He, too, advances to the New York State Championships in Albany.
“These accomplishments reflect the hard work, dedication and resilience of Jason and Peter, as well as the strength of our wrestling programs districtwide,” said Eric Caballero, the Director of Physical Education, Athletics, Driver Education and Health . “We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to cheering them on at the state level.”
Martin and Mikedis will represent Bellmore-Merrick at the New York State Championships in Albany beginning Feb. 27.
