After 9/11 Lesson, MAMS Students Thank First Responders

Lauren Beinert's classes at Merrick Avenue Middle School read a story about the events of September 11th, helping them understand the bravery, loss, and unity that marked that day.
“With compassion and care, I guided a thoughtful discussion, encouraging students to ask questions and express their feelings,” Beinert added.
Inspired by the courage of first responders and the importance of community, the class wrote heartfelt letters of thanks to local firefighters, police officers, and EMTs. Each student poured their gratitude into their words, acknowledging the everyday sacrifices these service providers make to keep others safe.
“It became a meaningful lesson not just in history, but in empathy and appreciation,” the special education teacher added.
